Rise of the Ronin is a massive action RPG from Team NINJA, the creators of the Nioh and Ninja Gaiden series. The game takes you to 19th-century Japan during the turbulent Bakumatsu period, when the country is on the brink of fundamental political and social change. As an unnamed ronin, you’ll embark on a journey that will shape not only your own destiny but also the future of an entire nation.
The story takes place during the decline of the Tokugawa shogunate and the arrival of Western powers in Japan. The country is divided between defenders of tradition and advocates of modernization, while civil war looms on the horizon. As a masterless warrior, you’ll find yourself in the midst of historic events and will decide whose side to take and the direction the story will take.
The game features a vast open world inspired by the historic cities of Yokohama, Edo, and Kyoto. You can freely explore the streets, rural areas, and mountain trails, complete side quests, build relationships with important characters, and uncover the secrets of Japan at that time.
The combat system combines traditional melee combat with more modern firearms. You’ll have access to katanas, spears, odachi, pistols, rifles, and other equipment. Each combat style offers different abilities and allows you to tailor your playstyle to your own preferences.
A key part of the game is the decisions you make, which influence the story’s progression, relationships between characters, and the final outcome. Your choices can alter the fate of important historical figures and shape the future of Japan.
