MAXIMUM REAR WHEEL PERFORMANCE ON MIXED SURFACES
The R model has a specific design for the rear wheel: a pattern with a medium block profile and medium block spacing, with added traction and durability, for a fast and confident ride on a variety of surfaces, both dry and wet, and with SmartGRIP rubber compound properties. In addition, the tyre features a high level of reliability and long service life. It works best in combination with the M model on the front wheel for balanced handling.

The Pirelli Scorpion XC is a model range designed for everyday cross-country riding. Whether it's a pure racing deployment where it's all about speed and a good track, or a relaxed and laid-back ride, the Scorpion XC builds on a SmartGRIP rubber compound with excellent grip and traction in dry and wet conditions and LITE (light weight, high speed) or ProWALL (increased puncture protection and high speed) construction.

Protective tire sidewall reinforcement technology for improved puncture resistance and more stable performance when using low tire air pressures. An added layer of nylon fabric over the sidewall braid not only increases puncture and snap resistance, but also improves the overall behavior of the tire in corners, allowing for better wheel control and more precise tracking. These features have been achieved without compromising on tire weight and pedaling power transfer efficiency, making tires with this technology perfect for use in XC racing to aggressive Trail riding when complemented with the appropriate carcass (120tpi and 60tpi respectively).
SmartGRIP
The premium rubber compound is the product of Pirelli's experience gained from off-road racing circuits for 2 and 4 wheels around the world. Pirelli engineers have developed a compound with two diametrically opposed properties:
- puncture resistance: it guarantees maximum mechanical grip and grip in dry conditions and higher puncture resistance, along with a longer service life.
- chemical wet grip: no need to think about changing conditions, whether it will rain or if there will be muddy and slippery sections on the track
The result is a longer lasting performance tyre that not only has excellent grip and traction in opposing conditions such as dry and wet, but also maintains these performance characteristics as the pattern wears. Unlike multi-compound rubber compounds (two or three), SmartGRIP's single-compound formulation allows for balanced handling characteristics as the tire wears and over its lifetime. The greater mechanical resistance of the rubber also provides greater resistance not only to wear, but also to punctures, so more force is required to cut or puncture the tire.
